Is making lots of money a necessity in your life and career? Or are you not driven by money? Our Career Drivers make us successful so who wants to be a Millionaire?
In your business, people are motivated by different things. If you want them to be successful, you need to work with their career drivers.
Current World Situation (Coronavirus 2020)

Right now in the world, there is real uncertainty about money and where the economy is going. We are carefully reviewing our stocks and shares and trying to figure out what to do. However we are in a better position than many families who are really scared about what will happen next.
The good news is that most people are not solely driven by money. Money is necessary but not linked to happiness.
Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs
This five-stage diagram was originally described as needing to meet 100% of the lower needs before any of the other needs could be met or achieve self actualisation. However, Maslow later clarified that satisfaction of a needs is not an “all-or-none” phenomenon. When a need is more or less satisfied it will go away.
We are motivated to meet the needs for the first four levels as if we lack part of them, we will strive to find it. Growth or self actualisation is always felt but can become even stronger if all our other needs are met.
We have reimagined the hierarchy of needs for the expat:
Money doesn’t buy you happiness as the saying goes so what is it (after we have our basic needs met) that creates great teams that deliver success?
Career Drivers
A career driver is more than a tendency or a disposition. It is an inner motivation which strongly influences you as an individual.
Those people who do not fulfill their career drivers are likely to find it difficult to be motivated at work. Wise individuals ensure their primary career drivers are satisfied.
Research has shown that most people have 2 or 3 major drivers, with only one at the core. It is the key driver that should guide your career choices and decisions.
Material Driver
If you want to be a millionaire, maybe it is the Material Rewards driver that encourages you to find a career that is high in wealth or standard of living. If that is important to you – own it! Dont be embarrassed, recognise that you need the monetary rewards to be motivated at work.
If your team are motivated just by money and you don’t control the budget, it’s hard to motivate people. You have to drop down to their second or third career driver.
Follow your Driver = Success
Of course, if you are motivated by the other Career Drivers: Power, Search for Meaning, Being an Expert, Creativity, Relationship based, Autonomy, Status or Security driven you can still follow your passion and become rich! But you defiantly won’t be successful unless you consider what you need in a career and find it.
Finding your team’s career drivers are key to how you speak to your team and how you can build a successful business unit.
Team, we need to deliver this month’s business numbers. I want you to be creative and come back to me with your ideas. You are the experts – so show me what you can do. I want other people to know that team is the best at what we do.
– creativity, autonomy, expertise, relationships, status all in one sentence
